Right on dusk I bump into this fella ‘Liam’ at the ‘great wall of China’ in The Flinders Ranges. He’s ridden all the way from Perth and slides into the gravel lookout with a huge locked up tail slide . If there was a track playing in the background it would be white snake or blue oyster cult. Instead it was just my kids playing Sabrina Carpenter in the rented Toyota Prado. Liam soon ripped down the gravel after a brief chat about how annoying my Leica’s broken shutter was. I started wondering why I’d never just gotten on a bike without enough supplies and ridden thousands of kilometres with zero plans. Then I drove my Prado down the hill safely listening to Sabrina Carpenter trying away a thousand flies I’d let in.
